Tomas Barreto

As the engineering operating partner, Tomas advises portfolio companies on building and scaling their engineering organizations.

As the fifth engineer and fourteenth employee at Box, Tomas spent over nine years scaling the engineering team through IPO and $500M+ in revenue. As VP of engineering, he led teams of 150+ and built the technical foundation for Box’s long-term success.

Tomas later joined Checkr as the first VP of engineering, scaling the engineering, product, and design team from 25 to more than 100 people. Tomas then co-founded Okay, an engineering effectiveness startup used by companies like Brex, Plaid, and Intercom, which was acquired by Stripe in 2023.

An advisor to 20+ companies, including Loom, Oura, and Modern Treasury, Tomas specializes in hiring top tech talent, scaling engineering teams, improving velocity, and mentoring CTOs. Outside of work, he experiments and keeps up with the latest research in health and longevity.
